MSA is pleased to confirm that, with generous funding assistance from the FIA, 20 FIA Academy engines have been successfully obtained through FTW Motorsport to be used as ‘pool’ engines in the OKJ class in this year’s MSA National Karting Championship.
The units will form an engine pool which will be maintained by multiple karting champion and ace karting engine tuner, Derrick Irving. He is no stranger to motorsport, having been involved in various aspects of the sport for numerous years, and is known for his attention to detail. MSA has no doubt that Mr Irving’s involvement will ensure transparency and equality, whilst maintaining a high level of technical reliability of the OKJ ‘pool’ engines.
The use of ‘pool’ engines will ensure a level playing field in the class, with no potential for unfair advantage to be gained through engine tuning. The driver’s skill and race craft will therefore be the deciding factors in one of the most competitive classes in South African karting, which carries the additional prestige of the national championship winner (subject to all qualifying requirements being met) being given the opportunity to represent South Africa in the FIA Academy Cup in Europe next year.
The ‘pool’ engines in the OKJ class will be in use from the opening round of the 2023 MSA National Karting Championship and MSA wishes all competitors all of the best for the 2023 season.
MSA extends its sincere thanks to the FIA for its significant financial contribution that makes the reversion to ‘pool’ engines in the OKJ class possible for 2023 and looks forward to a vintage season for the class.
The first round of the 2023 South African National Karting Championship will take place at the Celso Scribante Circuit in Gqeberha on 24 and 25 March. Entries are open on www.kartingsa.co.za/entry-form. For more information, please email Jackie Schreiber on jackie@gogoracing.co.za.
