The ROK Cup makes its long-awaited return to the Celso Scribante circuit this year. Choosing to eliminate Idube racetrack from the schedule. Idube has been a constant on the ROK calendar for a few years but this year, the ROK has headed to a new track for the inaugural race of the 2023 season.
Celso Scribante Short Circuit is one of the most popular karting circuits in South Africa. Located in Port Elizabeth, it has been a staple in the karting community since it was first established in the 1970s. The circuit has undergone many changes over the years, but its commitment to providing a safe and exciting racing experience has remained constant.
The History of Celso Scribante Short Circuit
The history of Celso Scribante Short Circuit can be traced back to the early 1970s when it was first established as a dirt track. At the time, the circuit was a small and basic track that was used primarily for local events. However, as the popularity of karting grew in South Africa, so did the demand for a larger and more advanced track.
In the late 1970s, the track was upgraded to a tarmac surface, making it one of the first in the country to do so. The new surface allowed for faster lap times and more competitive racing, which helped to attract a wider range of drivers to the circuit. As the popularity of the sport grew, the circuit continued to expand, with new facilities and amenities being added over the years.
In the 1990s, the circuit underwent a major overhaul, with a new pit area and spectator stands being constructed. This allowed for larger events to be held at the track, including national and international competitions. The circuit also received a new name during this time, with it being renamed after Celso Scribante, a local businessman and avid supporter of karting in the region.
Today, Celso Scribante Short Circuit is a state-of-the-art facility that attracts drivers from all over South Africa and beyond. The track features a variety of challenging corners and fast straights, making it a favourite among both novice and experienced drivers. The circuit also boasts modern amenities such as a fully-equipped pit area, timing system, and a range of support services to ensure that drivers have everything they need to perform at their best.
