It has been talked about since the beginning of the OK-N project, and the OKN-Junior is now a reality. Full-scale tests have enabled the CIK-FIA to validate the definition of the OKN-Junior engine to extend the OKN's field of action to younger drivers as easily as possible, with a simple exhaust flange. A single engine unit can therefore power drivers in both categories of the most accessible competition offered by the CIK-FIA for national markets.

TWO ENGINES IN ONE

For the Junior version of the OK-N, a straightforward and cost-effective approach has been adopted. The OKN-Junior and senior OK-N are separated from each other by a 26 mm flange on the exhaust. The exhaust system, carburetor, and engine are all exact replicas of one another. Once they turn fifteen, OKN-Junior drivers can transition to OK-N and continue their ascent by simply removing the flange.

A TRUE PYRAMID OF NATIONAL KARTING

Therefore, the CIK-FIA is establishing a consistent technical and athletic framework for karting competition in every nation. From the age of eight and up, Mini, OKN-J, OK-N, and KZ2 provide a full range of categories, allowing the greatest number of drivers to participate in national championships on realistic and controlled budgets. This viewpoint in no way hinders the National Sporting Authorities from continuing to organize competitions in the OK and OK-Junior categories, which are more focused on the global market.

AN OPEN MARKET THAT WILL REGULATE ITSELF

The CIK-FIA's vision of affordable karting includes opening up the market to all OK-N engine manufacturers in order to ensure healthy competition in the sale of both new engines and spare parts. The self-regulation of a competitive market will guarantee the best prices for competitors.

A WELL THOUGHT-OUT RACING FORMAT

There are other components intended to cut costs in addition to the technical specification of OK-N engines. The CIK-FIA has also assessed the competition format and suggests that, in order to save money and get back to the sport's roots, organizers limit race weekends to no more than two days. As a result, race weekends will now only last up to two days. Recall that the 2024 World Cup will be based on technical and sporting restrictions that only permit one chassis, one engine, and one and a half sets of tires, in the same spirit of cost-cutting.

AN INTERNATIONAL ENHANCEMENT

While the first FIA Karting World Cup - OK-N had been scheduled for 2024, the CIK-FIA is recommending an international tournament for this new category beginning in 2023 in cooperation with the Italian National Sporting Authority. At October 2023 in Franciacorta, this competition will be held in conjunction with the FIA Karting World Championship - OK and OK-Junior (ITA). The OK-N competitors will be thoroughly integrated into this important international event and will profit from substantial media coverage because they will be grouped in a particular paddock. The best three drivers and two additional drivers selected from the finalists will have the opportunity to win five tickets to the 2024 World Cup in this race with authorized foreign participation, which will be available to everyone without the need for prior qualification.

ITALY AT THE FOREFRONT OF OK-N

Italy is leading the way in the introduction of OK-N and has a significant karting market share. Other organizers are following ACI Karting's lead and incorporating OK-N and OKN-J into their national championships for 2023. Even if attention will unavoidably move to the Italian Championship to see the potential of the OK-N, other nations are also getting ready to include the new category to their national events.
